Gasketing & Sealing

Gasketing & sealing materials are often used to seal components from solid, gas, or liquid leakage. You'll find KLINGER IGI manufacturing custom gaskets and seals for technical applications ranging from the very sophisticated (like turbine engine fuel systems) to the very basic (like tanks, pumps and pipes).

Gasketing and sealing solutions manufactured by Klinger IGI are commonly used for containment of media and prevention of contamination to that media.

You'll find gasketing & sealing materials used in rotary or hydraulic applications, and at the junctions of pipes carrying important liquid and gas media (like water, steam, chemicals, and oil).  For example, sanitary gaskets and seals are extremely important in medical device, waterworks, food and beverage, and other applications that require compliance with health and safety regulations.  However, you'll also find gasketing material cut into parts that are useful for cushioning, dampening, shimming, isolating, and other targeted applications beyond normal sealing.

KLINGER IGI is a leading gasket manufacturer, fabricator, and a supplier of water jet, laser and die cut custom gaskets and seals.  We specialize in both industry standard gaskets and custom gaskets that are precision cut to a customer's print specification using our advanced fabrication machinery. Our relationships with the top gasket material manufacturers assures customers can choose from a vast selection of gasketing and sealing materials to meet design, performance, and price objectives.

Because materials listed below vary widely in performance and cost, their selection is important.  So if you have any questions about the best solution for your application, we welcome you to contact us.

Materials commonly used in manufacturing industrial gaskets and seals include:

Compressed Fiber

Compressed non-asbestos gasketing and sealing materials provide excellent ability to seal, superior torque retention, and heat resistance that eliminates the need for asbestos. Gaskets manufactured from compressed non-asbestos materials are designed to perform in applications involving, air, water, steam, oils, acids, and general chemicals. Gasket manufacturer, KLINGER IGI, cuts standard size and custom gaskets and seals from non-asbestos compressed sheet material stock we source direct from the sealing industry's major manufacturers including:

Teflon (PTFE, E-PTFE)

Teflon materials are used for Gasketing and Sealing applications, and are commonly found in water and food applications. Teflon gaskets also tend to be selected for chemical service because they offer superior sealing characteristics that reduce media loss and fugitive emissions. Varieties of PTFE gasket materials work well in the presence of many acids, caustics, hydrocarbons, refrigerants, and other difficult or dangerous media.   We stock and source:

Packings

Standard and custom packing are typically used for pumps and valves in the field, or to make die formed packing sets. Die formed packings are pre-cut, pre-densified and custom sized to your exact dimensions, so your sets can be installed faster and seat better.  Typical applications are:

  • Co-Generation Facilities
  • Power Plants
  • Pulp and Paper
  • Refineries
  • Water Treatment

Expansion Joints

KLINGER IGI has a wide selection of rubber, metal and fabric expansion joints that are typically installed between the anchor points of piping/ductwork, flue duct joints, or next to mechanical systems. Our expansion joints are specified to absorb pipe movement/stress, compensate alignment/offset, eliminate electrolysis action, isolate mechanical vibration, protect against start-up/surge forces and reduce system noise. These expansion joints have been engineered for tough demanding applications in industrial and commercial applications in the:

  • Chemical - Petrochemical and Industrial Process Piping Systems
  • HVAC Systems
  • Marine Services
  • Power Generation
  • Pulp/Paper Systems
  • Sewage and Pollution Control Systems
  • Water/Waste Water
  • Absorption Machines
  • Blowers
  • Chillers
  • Compressors
  • Cooling Towers
  • Fans
  • Flue Duct Joints
  • Pumps

Flexible Graphite

Flexible graphite is an extremely versatile sealing material made without binders, resins or other additives. We feature the BTCSS Calgraph® product line as well as other major brands of flexible graphite products. Key features of flexible graphite are:

  • Chemically Inert
  • Easy Conformability to Surface Irregularities
  • Excellent Thermal Stability
  • High Temperature Applications
  • High Thermal Conductivity
  • Low Coefficient of Friction
  • Low Gas Permeability
  • Non-abrasive
  • Non-toxic
  • Nuclear Certifiable, High Purity
  • Very Low Thermal Expansion Characteristics

Foam

We supply open and closed cell gaskets for a variety of end uses and budgets. We also manufacture or convert a complete line of high-quality single and double-coated foam tapes. Our large inventory of open, closed cell foams and sponge allows us to make a range of gasket types to serve sealing, dampening, cushioning, or other requirements. A wide variety of foam types is available, including:

  • Closed Cell Foams
  • ErgoFoam
  • Ether
  • EVA Foam
  • Filter Foams
  • High Density Urethane Foams
  • Non-Crosslinked Polyethylene Foam
  • Polyethylene Foam
  • PVC Foam
  • Silicone Foam
  • Urethane Foam

Rubber

Sheet Rubber materials are used for Gasketing and Sealing applications, in addition to other uses like Vibration and Acoustic Damping. These materials are often specified for applications requiring resistance to oil and solvents, abrasion and flex cracking, ozone and sunlight, heat, water, and steam.  Because they provide excellent tear strength, vibration damping, and compression set at a wide range of operating temperatures, standard and synthetic rubbers (like silicone rubber) are widely specified as gasketing and sealing materials.

Mil-Spec varieties are also available.  These include but are not limited to:

  • Neoprene (MIL–R–3065 SC / MIL-R-6855 Class 2 / MIL–G–1149 / ASTM D2000 M2BC)
  • EPDM (MIL–R–21252 / MIL–R–83285 / MIL–R–900 / ASTM D2000 M4AA)
